CBA Youth Academy
The Academy is a four-day music camp for 8- to 16-year-olds, held on the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley, California during the 45th Annual CBA Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival. Guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, and bass are all taught at various levels of experience. Singing is emphasized.
We publish our own CBA Youth Academy Songbook which every student receives. The songbook includes classic bluegrass and old-time songs, as well as many songs by California songwriters.
Justin Hiltner directed the Academy in 2018. Kimber Ludiker took the reins in 2019 and will be returning for 2020. Over the years, faculty have included members of Front Country, the Barefoot Movement, and Della Mae, in addition to many young CBA musicians.
The Eighth Annual Academy begins Wednesday, 6/17/20 at 1 pm., and runs Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 6/18 – 6/20 (from 10am). The Academy is produced and directed by the California Bluegrass Association.
Beginning and Intermediate players are welcome. Fifty children only. Parents or guardians must attend the Festival and be present on the Festival Site during the Academy.
Registration opens 2/15/20 at cbaweb.org. The cost is $300 for current CBA members and $350 for non-CBA members. $100 scholarships are available while funds last. The Academy sells out every year. Register soon!
