CBA Youth Academy
The California Bluegrass Association 5th Annual YOUTH ACADEMY will be held June 14-17, 2017 (Wednesday through Saturday) during the CBA 42nd Annual Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival on the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley, CA.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The 2017 CBA Youth Academy is SOLD OUT.
The CBA Youth Academy enrolls 49 students, ages 8-16, and provides four days of instrumental and vocal instruction. Students choose at least two instruments for instruction. This camp is a one-of-a-kind experience, exposing your child to bluegrass, old-time, and folk music. We accept beginner- to intermediate-level students. (FAQs about the Academy can be found at bluegrasscampsforkids.com.)
The Barefoot Movement is the featured faculty band this year. An end-of-camp performance is held at 3 PM Saturday on the Pioneer Stage. Registration for the CBA Youth Academy is $300 for the four days; registration opens February 15, 2017 on the CBA website. $100 scholarships are available while funds last. An adult guardian must purchase a four-day ticket to the Father’s Day Festival and be present on the festival grounds during the Academy.
The Barefoot Movement (Nashville, TN) will be travel out to teach and perform on Thursday on the Pioneer Stage. The four musicians in this award-winning band are: Noah Wall (vocals and fiddle), Tommy Norris (mandolin), Katie Blomarz (bass), Alex Conerly (guitar and mandolin). Justin Hiltner (Nashville, TN) from the Vickie Vaughn Band will be joining us for the first time to teach banjo. We are pleased that Yoseff Tucker (The Central Valley Boys, the BowTies) will be returning to teach guitar and Jan Purat (Steep Ravine) will return to teach fiddle. New this year will be a CBA VolunTeen and Academy Alum, Daisy Kerr (guitar and vocals), who will assist at the Academy. Note, there will be no Dobro instructor this year.
