Crying Uncle & Friends (Nov. & Dec. Performances)

Crying Uncle is a bluegrass duo band from Northern California, consisting of brothers Miles and Teo Quale, in collaboration with guest musicians. Miles, age 13 and primarily on fiddle, and Teo, age 11 and primarily on mandolin, are multi-instrumentalists who are state and national champions in fiddle and mandolin. The Quale brothers, as part of Rambling Minors and Crying Uncle, have performed at events such as California Bluegrass Association’s Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival and Freight and Salvage’s Berkeley Bluegrass Festival. Past performances include playing live on radio stations KVMR, KPFA and KKUP and opening for fiddler extraordinaire Michael Cleveland. Their band, Rambling Minors, was featured on NPR’s The California Report. In 2017 and 2016, the brothers were chosen to represent CBA’s Youth Program at the annual IBMA World of Bluegrass in Raleigh, North Carolina. Crying Uncle is based in the California Bay Area. CBA Youth Program Benefit Concert (7/15/17)

According to a recent Facebook post by Deanna Burchette Kerr: “Saturday night [7/15], at the Folsom Opry House, Barwick & Siegfried, Keith Little, Rick Dugan, and Daisy Kerr and the Walker Sisters put on a benefit concert to raise money for the California Bluegrass Association Youth Program. Here’s some great news from a proud parent of a member of The Foggy Coast Kids. This is the Pacifica public school program the CBA Youth Program supports.  Most of them play instruments from the CBA Instrument Lending Library and many enroll in the CBA Youth Academy. “The marathon month continues for [The Foggy Coast Kids] and their lending library instruments. This is their third of 5 shows in March and their best one yet. CBA Youth Academy Update (3/13/17)

The CBA Youth Academy 2017 (Note:  as of March 13, 2017, there are only 7 spaces left) The 5th Annual CBA Youth Academy held during the Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival week is proud to announce this year’s spectacular faculty.  Every year we bring fabulous young professional musicians to Grass Valley to teach and mentor our attendees and this year is no different. The Barefoot Movement (Nashville, TN) will be travel out to teach and perform on Thursday on the Pioneer Stage. The four musicians in this award-winning band are:  Noah Wall (vocals and fiddle), Tommy Norris (mandolin), Katie Blomarz (bass), Alex Conerly (guitar and mandolin).  Justin Hiltner (Nashville, TN) from the Vickie Vaughn Band will be joining us for the first time to teach banjo.  We are pleased that Yoseff Tucker (The Central Valley Boys, the BowTies) will be returning to teach guitar and Jan Purat (Steep Ravine) will return to teach fiddle.  New this year will be a CBA VolunTeen and Academy Alum, Daisy Kerr (guitar and vocals), who will assist at the Academy.  Note, there will be no Dobro instructor this year.
